Tri County League Playoffs and OMHA Semi Finals
Submitted By TCAS on Monday, February 17, 2020
It is that time of year where Tri County teams are advancing to the OMHA Semi Finals.

At Bantam and below when a team advances to the OMHA Semi Finals they are removed from our league playoffs.  Any and all games they were scheduled to play or have played are removed from the standings and replaced with new games, which are referred to as "replacement games".

When the initial divisions and games are created in December it is done according to Appendix B.  However, once a team is removed, the replacement games may not now match up to the Appendix B.

For example if the division starts with 7 teams and one team is removed, the replacement games may not mirror the Appendix for a 6 team division.  Unfortunately, the only way to do this in some cases is to change many more games already played and scheduled which causes far too many changes to those games that have already been played.

In every case when a team is removed, all effort is made to make the new round robin games as close to the Appendix as possible.   This means that although the home and away may not match the Appendix, the opponent will whenever possible.  In some cases a team will end up traveling to the same center twice to satisfy the two games against the same opponent.  If a team loses a home game then the replacement game must be a home game.  Every team must have 3 home games and 3 away games in league playoffs.

For almost all scenarios this runs relatively smoothly.   We run into some issues every year when we lose more than one team from one league play-off division or the team that advances won't work with replacement games.

We understand that people will say that the games are not according to the Appendix, but at the start of the play-offs they were.  Unfortunately it is impossible in every case to follow the Appendix without major disruptions to all teams and the schedule.

We hope this will at least explain how replacement games work and will give everyone a better understanding of the difficulty experienced at this time of year for schedulers and teams alike.

Good luck to all teams in the OMHA playdowns and Tri County League playoffs.
